After surviving a rather tough Monday, I had decided that today is gonna be better; I start the day with a cup of chai against the scenic weather and if the timing could be poetic; today it was when I watched Adhiraj Bose‘s state of art, too real to not evoke emotions short film, Int. Café: Night.
By the time the closing credits appeared on the screen; I sat there with a faint smile on my face and a simple thought that this Naseeruddin Shah starrer short Film is your story and mine too!
How is that so? Read on…
1. The Title of the film: The title suggests that it is inspired from screenplay writing format wherein one pens the environment (Interior-Int./Exterior-Ext.) of the scene followed by the location (Café in this case) and time of the day (Night in this case). Isn’t that how each frame of life is?Currently the frame for me is Int.Studyroom:Day ; what about you?
2. Circle of Life: The film tells the tale of an incomplete love story , where two estranged lovers(Played by Naseeruddin Shah and Shernaz Patel) meet 30 years later, parallel to them is a young couple(Played by Naveen Kasturia and Shweta Basu Prasad)bidding adieu to each other and loathing distance. They’re reminiscent of the older couple who have found themselves in the same situation, all over again! Isn’t this an example of circle of life, a spot where you find yourself on a lot of occasions?
3. A second chance: Meeting the love of your life after three whole decades and secretly hoping for things to fall in place *at least this time* exemplifies the chances of a second chance, an opportunity all over again that maybe this time it will work out. A chance, few get and most hope for!
4. Universe signs: The elderly man(Naseeruddin Shah) wants to attempt to not let his love go, although his heart still skips a beat for her, he is uncertain until an inner voice or an external source as you could say asks him to. A classic case of an individual’s need for reassurance through the universe’s signs!
P.S: Short films often convey the simple message that less is more and engrave a thought in your head before you realise it, Int. Café: Night exactly does the same in the sweetest way!
