Bollywood is like an infinite sea of movies featuring the canvas of human emotions. Some teach us a lesson, some evoke the sentiment of familiarity, and some merely help us unwind after a stressful week of work. However, this also means that sometimes we’re spoilt for choices and don’t end up watching some true gems!

But if you’re reading this, my love for Bollywood movies has helped me prepare a list of underrated Bollywood movies to catch on ZEE5. Read on, bookmark this list, and watch Bollywood movies online

1. Phobia

This movie tops the list for me because it’s an example of few of the well-executed psychological thrillers in India. Starring Radhika Apte in the lead, Phobia explores agoraphobia, an anxiety disorder wherein an individual perceives their environment as unsafe, often making them aloof from social settings, gatherings, and people at large. What led to this condition? And is there more the plot than meets the eye? Watching the movie is the only way to find out!

Directed by: Pavan Kirpalani

Produced by: Viki Rajani

Best time to watch: Over an ideal afternoon because this movie commands full attention, and is bound to make you ponder after you’ve watched it

2. Babumoshai Bandookbaaz

Starring one of the most versatile actors of Bollywood- Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is not a run-of-the-mill stories. It’s dark, twisty, and confusing at times, but intriguing all throughout its screen time. What happens when two hitmen enter in a competition of sorts? And even further, a love interest sparks in an unanticipated setting? The film answers it all for you.

Directed by: Kushan Nandy

Produced by: Kiran Shyam Shroff, Ashmith Kunder, Kushan Nandy

Best time to watch: When catching up with friends for a movie night, saying the dialogues out loud together from this movie can be a lot of fun!

3. Akaash Vani

We’ve often witnessed Kartik Aryan and Nushrat Bharuncha grace the screen with Pyaar ka Punchnama franchise donning the role of metropolitans, however in Akaash Vani, Nushrat takes you by complete surprise with her coy avatar, as a girl hailing from a conservative family from a small town. Her chemistry with Kartik wins aww moments. The film also features a cameo by Dangal fame, Fatima Sana Shaikh.

Directed by: Luv Ranjan

Produced by: Kumar Mangat, Abhishek Pathak

Best time to watch: Over a weekend when you intend to unwind, and revisit the good old love story premise.

4. Laila Majnu

As the title suggests, this film takes adds a contemporary spin to the eternal love story telling the tale of star-crossed lovers Laila and Qais (Majnu) played by Tripti Dimri and Avinash Tiwar. Set in the pristine landscape of Kashmir, this romantic drama sheds light on the issues faced by the youth today. The music is bound to resonate with you, and perfectly echoes the characters’ sentiments, and that of an average young individual today. Some of the songs such as O Meri Laila, and Aahista are bound to etch a memory in your heart!

Directed by: Sajid Ali

Produced by: Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Preety Ali

Best time to watch: When looking to watch the beautifully-made film, this one nails the craft with beautiful cinematography and Imtiaz Ali’s heart-wrenching screenplay!
