A little over two months ago Karenjit Kaur -The Untold Story of Sunny Leone Season 1 featured on Zee’s newly-launched OTT platform ZEE5, telling the lesser known story of one of India’s most popular actors. Running for about 23 minutes, every episode weaved a window into Sunny’s real-life unveiling chapters from her childhood and making us fall in love with her unapologetic approach.
While season 1 told us more about Sunny Leone, Karenjit Kaur-The Untold Story Season 2 which premiered on 18th September, brings the viewers closer to the life of Karenjit Kaur. It reveals about the person that she is with her family and loved ones. In the previous season, we all witnessed her graceful interview which then led towards her past, one eventful incident at a time. However, this season adapts a non-linear style of storytelling exploring her sentiments at the given moment and connecting it to a crucial event in the past. Alongside her professional journey, this time you gain a deeper insight into her familial stories, and her intricate but deeply rooted relationship with her mother.
As connoisseurs of cinema or content (Trust me, that’s all of us), one is to assume that it’s La Vie En Rose for her. But after watching this season, your perspective is sure to change as you witness her journey and heartbreak before finding her ‘happily ever after’ with her husband, Daniel Weber. Season 1 took us through their very first perfect date, but there’s more to their story than meets the eye and Season 2 tells you all about their not-so-easy unison and how they find strength in each other during times of turmoil. In easily one of the most poignant points of the series so far, the season depicts the most shocking loss of her life reflecting many of her unsaid words and emotions.
In terms of the screenplay, it gets even more gripping in season 2 and the characters seem much more familiar this time around. Grusha Kapoor and Bijay Anand deliver an impeccable performance as Sunny’s parents and echo sentiments of resonance through their later acceptance of her career choices and their unconditional love for their daughter above everything else. In a scene occurring during her testing times, the family is seen reminiscing their happy memories together whilst walking down the introspection lane on their decision to move from Canada to America presenting the canvas of emotions of an NRI family.
Each episode of this season spans around 20-22 minutes revealing yet another unknown chapter of Sunny’s life. The series leaves you curious to learn further more about some of the ordinary and some extraordinary happenings of her life that have shaped her into the confident woman she is.
