Dating apps, that’s my personal favourite segment from the web for its old yet outlandish feature. While we would love for people to smell the roses, our busy lives leave little or almost no time for us to plant that rose in the first place, forget alone gardening or even smelling it. In our need for speed and minimal time sparing schedules, online dating apps play cupid to experience the unexplored and meeting new people.

I remember pondering around a year ago at this time of the year as to how the dating apps are much like the online shopping experience, except here you’re adding profiles to cart than couture or creatives.

So what makes these dating apps a popular pick among us, the millennials? Even if you aren’t a millennial, I’m sure you’re curious to know…

1. The beauty of mystery: Dating apps come with the classic lost magic of mystery which comes with blind dates, while the world is becoming a smaller place, blind dates have gone with the wind. In that endeavour, dating apps offer respite.

The playful mystery

2. Hope is a good thing: As Morgan Freeman said in the Shawshank Redemption, “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of good things and no good thing ever dies.” Dating apps are an introvert/hopeless romantic/the unobviously charismatic souls ray of hope to not being #ForeverAlone :p

3. Convenience: Chances are thin but you could meet the one over a right swipe or at the very least you can have a funny story to share from your experience on these dating apps without moving an inch of your lazy self.

Ah, well

4. No filter: Right from expectation to exceptions, conversations on dating apps are known to follow the no filter rule, a feature missing in the dating world otherwise today.

P.S: This post in no way is a promotional feature for dating apps 😛 That was a snippet round of probable causes behind the success of dating apps. Tell me in the comments section what according to you makes dating apps a success? Until next time, #StayCurious 🙂

  1. at my age, I am indifferent about them… maybe I will start to take a lot more interest when my daughter reaches the dateable age!

  2. I wouldn’t know much about dating apps if I weren’t divorced. Well I’ve tried them and they are a good way to meet people specially if you’re older and don’t get to meet singles. I love the meme of the cat – sums up that crazy rush of hope when you hit it off with someone – who then just never texts you again. C’est la vie.

  3. Okay, now here’s the dilemma – can you start dating just like that? I need to see, know a person even before I can think of dating (Thats a 16 yr me speaking). I have no idea what will be the kind of apps when my son grows up! He might return from kindergarten in a few yrs and tell me he dated! OMG let me not think much.
